Grants to help organizations build programs that provide greater impact, meet growing need
Achieve, a consulting firm for nonprofits, has awarded grants to three organizations for services to help them with strategic planning, board development and fund-raising strategies. This is the first time Achieve has awarded grants.
The winning nonprofits are:
Louisville-based Family & Children First (now Family & Children’s Place), which will receive one year of Achieve consulting and resources valued at up to $10,000. In 2009, the organization will celebrate its 125th anniversary of serving families and children and also complete a merger with another organization, Family Place. Family & Children’s Place will use the grant for assistance in structuring the new organization, developing fund-raising plans and planning for a much-needed facility for children who are victims of sexual abuse. The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Illinois in Chicago, which will receive one year of Achieve Complete services to help the nonprofit raise funds. The organization provides services for people with Alzheimer’s and their families, funds important research to better understand how to prevent and treat the disease, and educates the public on brain health. The Paramount Heritage Foundation in Anderson, Indiana, which will receive one year of Achieve Complete services for assistance in developing a strategic plan and with fund-raising efforts. The Foundation provides public art, entertainment and community events inside a 1929 theater center. Paramount wants to be able to plan for future events that are better aligned with the changing demographics of Anderson. “By giving a bit of ourselves, our expertise and our resources, Achieve hopes to help three nonprofits each year,” said CEO Derrick Feldmann. “Ultimately, our goal is to help all of our clients and grantees build stronger organizations that have a positive impact on the communities they serve.”
Achieve created the grant program as a way to help small- to medium-sized nonprofits build capacity and have a greater impact on the communities they serve. Organizations may use the one-year grants to help with strategic planning, board training, board retreat facilitation or other capacity-building services.
Like clients who purchase the Achieve Complete package, Achieve grant recipients have access to Achieve’s online Resource Library of more than 120 templates and guidance pieces; 24 Webinar sessions; the Achieve It! project and goal-setting tool; and a subscription to Achieve’s monthly newsletter. In addition, each of the nonprofits will receive consulting services specific to their needs.
Free Webinar: Fundraising During Tough Economic Times
Smart nonprofit organizations should increase communication with their donors during tough economic times, says Ted Grossnickle, a 33-year philanthropy veteran and one of the founders of Achieve, a consulting firm for nonprofits.
“Many nonprofit executives make the classic mistake of thinking that donor contact should be stopped during difficult times,” said Grossnickle, “but, in fact, in times like these, it’s even more critical to keep your donors informed and engaged. It’s possible to not only to protect your organization, but even improve its standing.”
Fundraising during tough economic times is the subject of a free Achieve Webinar that Grossnickle will host on Friday, Nov. 21, at noon Eastern time. The Webinar is open for free to all staff and board members of nonprofit organizations, as well as interested parties. Register for the Webinar here.
